Comic:

Super Mario Maker 2 dropped their final update, recently. One of the many additions was Toad Houses (wrapped up as part of the Super Worlds feature). The Toad House, like in Super Mario Bros 3, lets you play a few different minigames in an attempt to score bonuses. The slot machine-esque Mix and Match is one such minigame, and it made a return! Only, when you mix up the power-ups, it’s no longer a metaphor: You straight-up create a living creature. And the game shoos the so-called abomination out the door, presumably off to a life of exile with all the other Mario misfits (that or a trash can).

Maybe it’s because I’m a mixed-race dude who knows what it’s like to be shoo’d away because I’m not “Star” enough or “Fire Flower” enough, but my impulse was to hug the little Mix-Ups (we’re calling them Mix-Ups now), so I made this comic. Thanks for noticing, Luigi!

It’s been 4 years since I last created a gag comic! I’d hate to get your hopes up and say this marks my return to KakuJomics, so I won’t say that. Instead, I’ll say that I took a 2-week break from my other work, and 1.5 weeks in, I got a mighty urge to draw and create and make comics. I guess you could say I put myself “out to pasture”, and the time gave me clarity to realize what I really love. And what I really, truly love is making comics. But while comics can be printed on paper, my bank tells me they’re not “legal currency”, so this is most likely going to be a one-off thing.
