Okay, first thing: I love this game. I also realize there’s nothing particularly psychedelic or outlandish about this game (other than the usual blue, talking hedgehog).
However, the fact that it has “Colors” (or “Colours” if you’re from Europe or Australia) as the subtitle in addition to this being a 3D Sonic game that doesn’t suck, for once, means they must have done SOMETHING different, yes?

Side-scrolling really is where Sonic belongs. That is, Sonic Team has yet to successfully create a 3D engine that can properly deliver the fast-paced experience Sonic fans expect. Even in Sonic Colors, the full 3D portions still lack fluidity. The 2.5D portions are just great, though. Luckily, the 3D issues aren’t enough to break what is otherwise, in my opinion, a fantastic game.

The addition of the Wisps is a decent touch. In the end, they were added to give Sonic more “power-up driven gameplay”. Again, take a leaf from Nintendo, much?

But OH, GOD, DON’T GET ME STARTED ON THE SCRIPT! Maybe others can stomach it, but the jokes are too grade-school for me. With every cheesy/corny dialogue between Sonic and the other characters, I could feel myself grow more and more devoid of face-blood… The perfectionist in me forces me to watch every cut-scene, to hear every word, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t like being force-fed loose stools.

Well, that’s all from me, for now. I didn’t mean to leave what is essentially a mini game review. But, who knows, I might roll with the idea in future “Release-Comics”.

In other news, this is the first time I’ve made a comic completely in Photoshop. I usually use Illustrator to draw my lines, as they auto-smooth, but I get less control over the outcome of each stroke, resulting in a drawing I can’t completely feel is mine. I’m a little more confident in my lineart abilities now, so I’ll be using less Illustrator in the future. Also, LENNSSS FLAAARRRREE!!!

In other-other news, There will be no comic on Thanksgiving. There will be a fancy picture, but that’s all I’ll have time for. I’ve got plenty of food to eat, and I need to finish up on that webcomic site job. See ya’ then~
