I KIND of discussed it in the last episode of Draw With Kakujo, but Harvest Moon: A New Beginning is the best Harvest Moon I have ever played. It’s a bold statement, I know. Details in the “Video Games” section, below~
This was the first comic I’ve ever tried livestreaming. Got myself a justin.tv account riiiight HERE. As with any new thing, I had my issues, but they’re mostly resolved. If anyone has any advice on how to reduce brush lag while using Open Broadcaster Software, however, please: By all means.
Updates on the Gaming Channel will be sparse, this week. My Flu is gone, but my sinuses are still garbage. I’ll upload some backlog-filler until I’m better.
Now that I’m sticking to a more focused schedule, I have less and less stuff to announce. I guess that’s not necessarily a bad thing, though. I can just post a couple links, a “Best of Week X-X”, and we can just talk about video games.
And now, the Best of Week 1-2:
Best of Week 1-2
So, Harvest Moon: A New Beginning… The best Harvest Moon ever.
“What about Back to Nature, Kakuj–”
I KNOW. It’s just… It’s a really good Harvest Moon, ok? It’s got all the core mechanics you love, only streamlined, and all the bells, whistles and totally unnecessary Alpacas that you didn’t ask for but will absolutely adore. Okay, I’ll admit, it’s not easy to pinpoint what makes a good Harvest Moon, but I’ll say this: I’m pretty sure the pacing plays a HUGE part. I’ve played every Harvest Moon– yes, even Save the Homeland let’s not get distracted– but I’ll only have played ’til around Fall of the first year, because they either throw all the game has to offer at you in the first season or they’ll string out a pathetically meager number of events over several years; LOOKIN’ ATCHOO SAVE THE HOMELAND. A New Beginning paces exquisitely. Every time I think “Ehh, I might get bored of this in a few (in-game) days”, “KNOCK-KNOCK”, here’s Dunhill with another totally awesome thingy-thing to do!
My only quibble with the game is how they space out the arrival of the bachelors/bachelorettes. For a few, you have to wait until year 2 before they even show up. Unless you look up the candidates on the net before you start playing (and yes, I realize most of us do just that, in your defense), you could totally go for a girl/guy that came the first Spring and get hitched before Mr./Ms. Perfect even rolls into town. THIS IS DRAMA SOUP, PEOPLE.
So yeah, this sinus thingy… I am SO SICK OF THIS AND WANT TO RECORD VIDEO GAMES. TEA! TEA AND NASAL SPRAY!!
TEA YOU THEN~
